Rubber Bands
there is not much that's holding me back
just rubber bands
and paper clips
and that thin thread of reason
that is somehow
still attached
I snipped all the others long ago
and my own fear of what I would do next
keeps my rubber bands from breaking
oh, I stretch them as far as they will go
I still can't reach you
but
I'm a little closer
but I won't snap them clean apart
no
for, if I did
I would collapse
with nothing left to hold me up
not even paperclips and rubber bands
