Favorite Quote:
They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night. <br /> ~Edgar Allan Poe

Farewell my gentle childhood
I must leave you behind in the garden.
Farewell to the cherry trees
from which I lay beneath and dream
Farewell my dear Mops,
to whom I found a friend
Farewell my innocent love
you remain forever in my heart
Au revoir

The author's comments:
This poem is loosely based upon Marie Antoinette's departure from Austria. Denied of her childhood, Antoinette was forced to leave Austria at a young age and was arranged to be married to a young man she had never met. She had been stripped of everything Austrian- even her dear pug, Mops- and thrusted into the French nobility, where she was often slandered and the object of gossip. The fact that she was able to make that transition from her comfortable domain to an unfriendly environment while keeping her head held high strikes me as courageous.
