Paper Memories
Shattered seashells left in a box
Collecting dust from the memories of summer
Waiting to breathe salt sea air that doesn’t exist in this world
Anymore
Multi-colored spider webs
Glistening in the light
Like fragile love, losing its grip
And ripping down the center
Kind of like a heart left alone in the cold
Leaves bleeding gold and red
And falling gracefully onto the ground
Dancing, and enjoying the ride, whispering to the wind
Pine needles and fresh snow melding together
Loving the smell and enjoying the frost
Alive with energy, hope, and happiness
Laughter soars like a paper crane
That loses its wings, crashing to the floor
Photographs tied with ribbons under my pillow
Memories of you, back then, in summer
Memories of you, back then, in fall
Memories of you, back then, in winter
Why did spring slip away?
Spring is a time of hope, and spider webs, and late-night whispers
Anxiety of summer building upon our backs, and dragging us down
But we didn’t mind
Spring was when a flower bloomed in my backyard
And I ripped all the petals off
Because of you
Delicate raindrops sliding down the windowpane
Matching tears on a person’s face
Hiding in the shadows of what once was
And waiting for summer to come back again
