The widest of smiles
My guests are talking of their children's future careers
As I drift off to space, wearing a smile
With the classical music in the background acting as a lullaby;
A far-off echoed voice arrives loud and clear at my ear
And as I blink and look around at their faces
I find myself in their mirrored eyes
But somehow know they're curious to hear me say something
Curious in an artificial drool,
Curious in ignorance
Without realizing, I put on a smirk
"Excuse me, I have to go to the bathroom",
I say. As I empty my bladder I look around and observe
My colored bottles of cremes in all forms and sizes
I grab the one of which label's my favorite
And read again its chemical formula
Then I unscrew its plastic lid, scoop two fingers of the paste
And evenly spread it out over my face's pores
Cover my mouth with an old cherry-red lipstick
Before returning as the illustrious host
Wearing the widest of smiles
Over my uncontrolled smirk.
