Wanted: Dead or Dying
For what purpose did love depart,
And why did these surroundings
Cling to me?
Never the less, here I am- convicted,
Without a guide, yet searching
For who I am to become.
Shackles chafe this withered mind,
To wear and weigh mine eyes,
Though but stripes adorn this body.
Heed the call of noon to mount
My lone steed and companion-
To set sail with the breeze.
A revelation I have drawn and now
I reload it so that
I may be carried away.
Oh, carry me back to the days of summer,
When the sun painted a portrait
Of one thousand smiles.
No; carry me into the city for all to see-
For all to gaze a second upon
A lifeless poem,
And only then in the shallow
Passerbys am I defined:
A sad tune soon forgotten.
