a time in which she realized that you can't experience true love without true hearbreak
eyes glaze over with forgotten remembrance
the hue from her cheek diminishes
lashes hide the windows to her soul
that have cracked and faded
a human’s anatomy should be simple,
scientific
no one warned her
that the heart was different
their love was futile
and unforgiving
the shadows beneath her eyes can tell the story
she watches the world pass,
unable to consign to oblivion
her deflowered tears mar what once was fantastic
beauty
now she treads with heavy step
bearing the irons of tainted love
chained to a past she cannot relinquish
the lock that binds her has no key
no perfect mould to fit the empty
portrait
lips that tremble
silent prayers lost to the tumult of worship
key to conversation yearns for
emancipation
but her tongue was cut
in reminder of the thorny stem
in every rose
eyes heavy from lack of sleep
windows darken
once glossy tendrils of her hair
now coarse
cushion her descent
and then
the darkness won
