Ignored MAG
The painting beside the Mona Lisa
Knows no audience
It hangs on a brass peg
Centered on a great white wall
Protected by the museum it rests in
The painting beside the Mona Lisa
Is in a prime position for viewing
But Da Vinci's strokes hold all the fame
And the crowds that gather have eyes for one
As lovers so infamously do
The painting beside the Mona Lisa
Is insignificant
Placed where the shadow heads
Of a thousand viewers for its neighbor
Cast the canvas in darkness
The painting beside the Mona Lisa
Will outlive the adjacent masterpiece
When flashing cameras crack the paint of
her face
And the layers of pigment wear thin
And she must be hidden away from the public
The painting beside the Mona Lisa
Will one day know the same.
