A bizarre, weary tree rooted itself upon the hilltop.
Her trunk leaned as she bore Atlas’ burden.
Her branches bowed before
the Sun and Moon as
Her long leaves wept for
Mankind.
Only when we lower our blades
from each others’ throats,
Will her stiff bark
Straighten
Itself out.

This was originally the prologue to a novel i was writing. But i wanted to share this poem so i added a couple of lines. It is based off a native American myth that said the willow tree curves because of mankind.
