night and day
and I think the sun is
awfully aloof
to sit so high in the sky,
beating down relentlessly and
highlighting every part of us all
so mercilessly, but
demanding we avert our gazes
by burning holes in our retinas.
and maybe the moon is
a bit on the shadier side,
never bothering to protect us
from nightly lurking dangers
but at least
when it claims its lofty domain
it lets us run our eyes
over every part of the sky.
