Side of the Road
As I was driving home one day
I drove by a small cross.
As I continued driving
I pondered that life loss.
I wondered who the person was
And what type of life they lived.
I wondered about their family
And what work that person did.
Did they have a lot of children
Or maybe none at all?
Were they a farmer or a baker?
Or did they play football?
I wondered where they were headed
If they got the chance to say goodbye.
Were they headed to one of these stores
Or were they just driving by?
It made me very grateful
For my family and my life.
It made me want to rush right home
And pull my family by my side.
When I did get home that night
And tucked my kids in bed,
I went into my bedroom
And knelt to bow my head.
I thanked the Lord for all He gave me
For the many blessings in my life.
And then I prayed for the family
Of the person that had died.
I learned something from all of this
I’ll take with me everyday.
God is in control of our end
And we have no say.
