Tragic Buoyancies
Oh small hope,
Perched upon my shoulders,
Do not plague me so!
Your burden has weighed heavily in my leaden tears,
And your promise broken a thousandfold.
Small hope!
Do not taunt me with your wayward smile,
I must not believe such lies!
Monstrous,
You are,
With your flickering whimsies,
Causing me such pain;
Such woeful heartache that I can seldom breathe.
Oh, you are such a dismal flower upon my early grave,
A cursed vessel that sails upon the ocean,
But forever buried by the sea;
Small hope, do not linger here,
For I cannot hear a sound;
I am deafened by your blasphemy,
Ears boxed in by utter longing.
Your voice is so quiet now,
Like a lark silenced by a freeze,
But oh, small hope,
I know you watch me from your heightened perch,
Waiting to crush with optimism your broken and weakened foe.
