My Oh So Trusting Heart
I'd no control o'er where my heart did fall.
The fates chose for me where my soul would land.
I had no choice but to give him my all,
My feeble offering of heart and hand.
He took them both and promised to take care.
All of my trust did on his shoulders lie.
But he betrayed me, brought me to despair
And had the pleasure of watching me die.
I didn't plan to fall so hard so fast.
It was a choice my heart made on its own.
My eyes were blind with love that couldn't last.
My mind was in a whirlwind being blown.
My judgement was so clouded by his words,
His gentle proclaimations of desire.
His song of love, it did within me spurn
And ever growing, all destroying fire.
I once felt love, the all consuming flame.
It grew within me till it singed my heart.
Now I hide my face in a lasting shame,
A shame that tears my very core apart.
