I Know
A thin blanket to shield us from the rough ground
The down comforter like a cloud over our heads
Laughter like birds flying from our stomachs
Talking about boys
Girl stuff
Then the tears came
Running down your face
I hate them
I hate what they do to you
I hate what they do to me
But I only cry alone, my tears don’t like company
So I watch them streaking down your face
Feeling the monster clawing at my chest
Ripping at my heart
Tearing me up
Wishing I could cry with you so you could know
Longing to hold you in my arms
I know.
