Before You Pick it Up
I thought it was important
So I picked it up to see
It turns out it was just my friend
Who thought of texting me
My hand was on the wheel
My foot was on the gas
My phone was in my hand
My eyes were on ‘distract’
I fiddled with the buttons
Until I heard the sound
The screeching of the tires
My phone fell to the ground
Grabbing tight the wheel
Trying to make the swerve
Towards a tree a headed
I quickly made a turn
My foot slammed to the break
Then my heart nearly skipped a beat
When I looked to my left
And saw the mess on the street
The glass was scattered everywhere
It all seemed like a dream
Until I heard the sirens
It all made me want to scream
Luckily everyone was fine
Though my heart still skipped some beats
To think I could’ve stopped this
If I had kept eyes on the street
