In the King's Chamber MAG
At sunset, the king takes off his crown
And gently places it
On the polished mantle.
The town is bathed in caramel light
And the queen is fast asleep.
The weight of the world's admiration
Rests on the mantle,
Gratefully removed.
The king is not a king,
But merely a man
Who is tired, and sore from standing.
Mortal colors shine
From beneath the sagging skin
And paint the golden walls
Of the king's chamber
