In the Room Above the Town Square
In the town square,
Men and women crane their necks
To see the painting
On the ground.
It is abstract, it tells of many things.
It tells of life
And death
And the colorful in between.
All the men and women yearn for the artist,
But he never comes.
In the room above the town square,
An old man shakes with laughter.
He had been awake last night;
Had seen the cans of paint
Tumble from careless hands.
He had seen the coward flee.
He had seen the contents spill their beauty.
The masses in the square had not.
And that made all the difference.
