Strawberries in Jersey: ode to an ex boyfriend.
Such an intricate feeling
the brush of his hair on my fingertips
the taste of his kiss in my mouth
like strawberries.
I am falling in love with the way this boy talks
the complex things he says without words or sounds
the trust lingering behind his every step as we
step away
and step closer than ever before
as one
And goodbyes have always been the worst
like salty paper cut wounds to clean flesh
I can't wait to eat his heart again
when we
lace our fingers and tap tap tap
to the rhythms we share
feet in sync
eyes locked
in chaotic cities that turn to sand
and blow away softly
quietly
when there's no such thing as bye bye
When this boy
this boy
this boy and I
shall taste the stars one night
Just as sure as
this poetry means the world to me
and how he makes these words flow
like streams and tears
that taint my face with stolen make up
his fading silhouette in the background of some sad song
he insists
arch my lips and sing along
feel
warm
Like his soft numbly kisses on my nose
smiles to my dimple
things to hold
on to for later
when it hurts again
When I can’t find
strawberries
in Jersey
long and lost in Arizona
Pennsylvania
New York City
Manhattan
.imagine.
perfection
When I was 100% sure
things were going be different
and gosh I loved him so much more for that
