Fighting Love
I'm the one who killed the bird,
Shot it from the sky -
Broken children never learn
Except to say goodbye.
Stole the poet's quiet word,
Stabbed the painter's eye -
A selfish child never cured
Of causing things to die.
Gentle speech I'd never heard,
I thought it was a lie -
For fear I killed the blooming bird
Before it pitied I.
The ghosts have left me in
My solitude, my shield -
I do not miss the withered bird;
I've forgotten how to feel.
