Yet The Soldier Still Marches
The gun is loaded.
The gun is polished.
It is ready,
And so is the soldier,
And now,
All the soldier can do is wait.
Who he will meet is not possibility,
But a probability.
The soldier marches at a pace faster and faster.
“Double-quick!”, his officer yells.
The soldier trudges foot by foot,
Over the victims.
Men in ranks are now starting to fall.
Ratliff, Ickes, Parish;
They have met him now.
He has a breath of gunpowder,
A voice of bullets.
Darkness is seen in the distance.
.. .. .. .. ..Yet the soldier still marches.
