Beautiful Facade
Pull and tug
Poke and prod
Undo and fix
Just to change it back
Because its a never ending search for perfection
Hours spent staring at your own reflection
Searching every curve and crevice
Seeking out every single flaw
Days spent cultivating an image
That can conceal every last blemish
To please whom
Certainly not you
Distorting your body
Into society’s picture perfect teenage girl
For who
For them
For their cherished approval
The key to happiness
Don’t you agree
You’re wrong
Forget the status quo
Who even made that final decision
On what entails perfection
What exactly is beauty
When did I start hating myself
Because I didn’t fit into someone else’s conventions
When did I become my own worst enemy
Killing myself from the inside out
For the desires of a sick materialistic society
What about my wants
My needs
Forget humanity
What about me?
