Ashes
The brave are mounted on the wall.
Their pride and courage once admired,
Now they can't even look them in the eyes.
Dignity is no longer a virtue.
Greed is now what we are used to.
Young ambition gleaming from their skin
Replaced with the dullness of copper mold.
People say "This country ain't what is used to be!"
It never was.
Propaganda and arrogance filling our outlets
And blinding our already dull vision.
This country was settled on the treachery
Of the wide-eyed and vulnerable.
And that's how it has stayed.
Be proud of this country,
Because it never has done you wrong
If you are white, Christian, straight, and rich.
Abraham Lincoln, they spit on your grave!
Their bullets riddle your book of values,
Forget all about James Wilkes Booth,
They kill and never have to run.
Our freedom, our rights, our own minds
Lying dead in the streets with knowledge dripping
From the ever-running vein of American rebellion
They hate, we beg for love!
No matter how we try to stand up,
The floor is set aflame beneath us.
We scream to be heard!
Their inane gibberish mute us.
The simple truth is
United, they and we burn bright in a night sky.
Separate, we are nothing but ashes.
