Sleeping
When we close our eyes,
We enter a new dimension.
The haze clouding our thoughts clears,
If only for a few hours.
All of the real world’s drama evaporates
Into peaceful silence.
Life begins anew.
We lay,
Like babies,
Swathed in our dreams.
We are oblivious of all who watch,
Loathing our serenity.
Our pillows cradle our sleeping brains,
Urging us to keep the peace.
Our blankets smother us
With the promise of safety.
Never to get up again,
The alarm rings,
And chaos begins once more.
