These Aren't Contacts
The first time was very superficial: green. One color, nothing more.
The second time was curious: sunken, but bright. Green with hints of blue and gold. Specks of brilliance, and experience, and a hint of truth. Self-consciousness flipped the switch to reality again.
The third time was palpable: unfeigned, and the good kind of selfish. She couldn't blink, for fear of missing one moment. A kaleidoscopic Pacific ocean of blue-green and sea foam and the last alchemist's gold. She had fallen.
