Smiling At The Ashes
I set the book of memories ablaze within my mind.
You promised me eventually they would fade over time.
The flashbacks that torment me and take me to that day,
I stood at the feet of what once stood and ashes blow away.
I know your blood is on my hands,
Because you should have escaped.
Nobody could understand,
Now that you’ve gone away.
I abandoned you, but it is like you had survived.
I saw you smiling at the ashes, saying your goodbye.
