Scooter
You know, I love you
Much more than I’ve
Ever loved any furry
Creature of this earth.
And I know that what’s
Happening is for the best.
It would be selfish to keep
You on this Earth when all
You feel is the pain and the
Weakness that is more
Powerful than your wizened
Body can stand anymore.
And I know that I
Will miss you so much.
I’ll miss finding pens
And toilet paper rolls
And Dixie cups and Ping
-pong balls strewn about
The house, an expression
Of your independence and
Your quirky personality.
I will miss your rumbling purr
And your claws on my hand
Telling me that no, that wasn’t
Enough petting for now, thank you
Very much.
I will cry when you’re gone,
But a part of me will be happy
For you, knowing that this is
What you needed, and that this
Isn’t really the last time I’ll hold you
