Backyard Forest
We walked through the dense trees
Our rain boots squishing in the damp soil;
It was back in the woods
Where we entered a magical place
It was quiet and serene,
Everything was lush and full of life
Giant leaves sat by the creek,
And listened to it babble about olden days when everything was green
The giant trees seemed to have personalities,
If you listened closely you could hear their deep voices,
Whispering to each other
Quietly and unnoticed.
We waded into the cool creek
Water bugs glided across the surface
As they did their errands for the day
Was this a fantasy?
I will never forget those cool summer afternoons
When we went to our green world
Filled with life
And magic.
