Spoken Like a True Liar
Bone white smile
Flashes across the table from me.
Your pompous manner,
Your arrogant air,
Fill me with a certain distaste.
"Follow me."
Like a father,
You'd told me what I'd wanted to hear.
Told me the world sucked.
Told me I was right.
Told me you loved me.
Suckered me away from my parents.
Weaned from a sweet breast
With words of things much sweeter.
You fed my need to satisfy
Made me believe a lie.
Captured me in a net of smoke
That were your promises.
I swirl my hand into the air.
This is what you mean to me.
Nothing.
Empty as air around me.
"Trust me," you'd said,
"Your parents don't know you the way I do."
You were right.
They'd never known me...
Through your blind eyes.
Spoken by a true liar...
