Fallen Angel
He tripped from high up in the sky
Fell headlong to the earth
Screaming as he fell
Seeing his world disappear.
A tortured soul he became
Haunted by the loss of his love
The fair angel who watched him fall
With anguish and fear,
Unable to save him,
Unwilling to follow him into exile.
But still she longed for him
The lighthearted angel who now roamed
Homeless, hopeless.
Dark and destitute
Turned bitter by desire, an constant ache in his heart
Grew old before his time, burdened by love
Yet stayed young, his face unmarked by wrinkles,
His strength did not diminish, his mind still agile.
Knowing loss, he sought to take from others
What meant most to them
His heart became sinister, his mind twisted
His morals corrupted by humans
He was shadowy, dark, terror with wings
Fed off the pain he caused
Laughed at the fear of his victims
Emboldened by his power.
No more was he an angel, he who fell from Heaven,
He was Death – and he
Lived in a palace of skulls and putrid shadows.
From high in the sky, his love watched him change,
Wept for him and all he had lost
On his fateful tumble from the land of light.
