Late Night...
He hangs his head
in shame.
As I approach the kitchen table,
he feels as if maybe I disobeyed him
and his house rules.
I didn’t mean to stay out late,
but the evening caught me by surprise.
Hanging his head
to expressing his disappointment.
Clutching into the newspaper in his hand,
as angry began to consume him.
Heading toward the seat next to him,
I began to think of how to explain
the previous evening to him.
As I opened my mouth to explain,
