Writing About Love
I can't write about love
It's like I lack the ability
When I try – I understate it
And make it seem all too trivial
In all my attempts – I misstate it
And something's lost in translation
Because the metaphors don't fit
And the similes suffer by comparison
Or it's too sickeningly sugar sweet
And the words simply seem wrong
And then there is nothing specific
It's mass produced, generic
They could print it on a greeting card
The phrases are just that fake
And how I wish I could
But none of my clauses would be creative
It's all been done before
Perhaps I'm a little too late…
Or maybe that's the way it is
No ifs, ands, or buts about it
I can't write about love
But not for lack of trying
