Still. Without. You.
For the ones who didn't say goodbye
I know it hurts – I understand your pain
But you must believe it's better this way
You can wish for just the chance -
Pray for a single moment more -
To say goodbye.
To bid farewell.
But think about it -
Is that what you really want?
You want to be re-united?
Only to be ripped away and torn apart all over again?
Think about those you'd torture -
With another glimpse of your face,
With one last touch of your hand,
With the final echoes of your voice -
Is that really closure?
Would they say, "I love you"?
Would they say, "I miss you"?
Would they say anything at all -
Or is this one of those moments
Where all words fail miserably?
Or would they even be able to speak?
What about you?
They lost you once
Without saying goodbye
So this time
They'll get to say it
But they won't want to mean it
Because everyone hates goodbyes
Don't they?
And at the end of the day – guess what?
They get to lose you a second time
Isn't once hard enough?
They've already started to learn
From that fateful moment of parting
How to live without you
And now you're back
But it's only a temporary tease
And they have to get used to you being back home
For you to leave them all over again
And they'll have to readjust once again
To being on their own
And even if they're not alone
They're still. Without. You.
There is a time for every purpose under heaven
A time to live, and a time to die
Without death, we cannot know life
Without pain, we cannot understand pleasure
Without sorrow, we cannot feel joy
I promise you when I say
It's better this way
For you, for them, for me, for all of us
You may not have heard it
We may not have spoke it
But the goodbyes we shared
Were enough for now
Until we meet again…
