The Circus Within
Faded tents held by plywood high beams;
a temple where magic radiates and those cancerous rays infect your bones.
A spectacle made to fall in love with.
The smell of hay and fresh popcorn coax your mind.
She doesn’t struggle to focus
on those movements that
the dreamer in her wishes
she could perform.
You’ll leave perplexed by the sight,
satisfied to say the least.
The child at heart rejuvenated
yet disappointed in herself
because she isn’t on that stage living
that life of a magical performer,
admired for being graceful
but people aren’t always who they seem to be.
