Now and Then
The past is gone
I let it be
I keep moving along
It won't stop me
But what for today
I am here now
It won't go away
I must live, but how?
When there is then
A future I sense
My feelings I pen
But with time a fence
I must wait for tomorrow
It is not something to chase
For it always is coming
Perhaps I'll pray, just in case.
Then becomes now
And now turns to then
This cycle repeats
Over again
Yet always changing
Each new day, its own
Even if I try to stop
In to each new day I'm thrown
I want nothing more than you
But you are stuck in tomorrow
The one that always is next
Never today, fills me with sorrow
What am I to do?
Shall I sit and wait?
My heart's beating for you
But waiting, I hate
Run away from tomorrow
Won't you please run towards today
Then we can be together
And I know everything will be okay!
When you are in my arms
My mind will be at peace
When our hearts are held close
All doubting will cease
But until that day
That may not come
I still shall pray
A song I'll hum
One of longing
One of hope
One of happiness and joy
Yes, a song I'll hum
To the beating of my heart
And it will not stop
Until we are no longer apart
