Finished
You know I started writing today
I dug out all of your poems, every one of them unfinished
And thought, “What would these be like if you finished them?”
You never finished anything.
You know I started singing today.
Rambling out words to some make believe melody.
Forming tunes and pitches to your liking of course.
A merry go round feeling, there once again. And again. And again.
You know I started dancing today.
Bottling my emotions inside so the moves tell our story.
I hummed. Humming a song you started but never finished.
You never finished anything.
You know I started laughing today.
Laughing to a point of no return.
Forget everything when my insides are intoxicated by the rush of amusement.
Laughter is the best medicine. I’m allergic.
You know I started believing today.
Asking myself maybe it was fate.
Maybe, just maybe I was supposed to be away from you.
But friction pulls me back. Like a magnet.
You know I started smiling today.
Teeth breaking through lips to show the masked emotions.
Masked emotions that only you saw.
You wrote me poems once, remember? Like everything, though,
You never finished it.
