I sit, thinking, wondering.
I dream of a world where I can venture into the hustled town

Around me I am isolated

Just the sparkling clear pond and hum of the insects, grasshoppers mostly

My only friends

The sun beats down through the dying trees and I'm parched

As I approach the pond I see it, the civilization

I gaze across the shamrock sea

Focus

I see a mountain, like a gum drop glistening in the sunlight

Focus

I see the outlines of the buildings, the church bell

Focus

I see a street lined with beaming children, ice cream in hand

Focus

I see a house, a loving family sitting on their porch

Focus

I see their smiles, true joy

How I long to have it

Focus

I look down in the pond

My reflection stares back up

How I wish to see those smiles

Rather than just a hawks imagination

How I am isolated

The church bell tolls.

This was a piece assigned by my poetry teacher at Duke. It's supposedly from a hawks perspective.
