The Highwayman's Friend
I'll carry on, with nowhere in mind
Passively counting the clouds in the sky
Reaching out to a ghost since past
That I cannot seem to leave behind
We will laugh, and we will play
And we will promise on the wind
But like our games of "make-believe"
We'll lie to each other, as much as ourselves
And you will become a heavy burden
An ugly blemish upon the horizon
Endlessly littered with our ill-fated dreams
And the lackluster love always following me
But when the sun sinks steadily low
And darkness creeps across the land
When you fade fom my grasp
And the chill night air caresses my hand
I, then, will realize much too late
That you were no friend of mine
And that you taught me not to love
But, instead, to hate in time
