Mermaid
Thrown into the sea as a young girl,
from the dolphins she learned to swim
And the fish lent her gills,
so she could breathe and dream among them under the sea
Others gave her scales to cover herself, so she would fit in
And over time, from never walking, her legs were woven together by the many multicolored scales given to her
Her hair grew long and nearly colorless,
She hadn't seen the sun in so long...
One day, curiosity got the best of her
and she went up to the surface
Singing a whale song in her lovely soprano range, she looked up to the sky in wonder
Almost in a trance, she stayed there for hours
Gazing, dreaming, wondering, and wishing of a life above the waves
Until a ship came, parts gilded in gold
Crewmen aboard saw her and waved their hats in the air
They were screaming something she couldn't quite understand
But it sounded like
Mermaid
