Holiday
With feet brown
The child leaves
Leaves the holes and scars
Of unfamiliar emotion
Sneaks into a quiet place
Where the air hangs
Waiting in suspended animation
The child’s arms spread,
Body swirls, eyes widen
Mind quiets, opens
They come forth from cracks in air
With hands that cut doorways in nothing
Mouths that speak in musical notes
And with feet that make the ground so soft
They dance in a cloud of laughter and spell
All too soon, sunrise
They fade as they came
And with eyes gold
The child leaves for ‘home’
And forgets about dreams
