Our Night Time - Water Bears

Our night time is one of loud insects,
Calling in earnest
To loved-ones, abandoned in this garden's universe.
I watch as stars dance pictures in the black,
And street lamps cast orange
Shadows through my window.
An alley cat glances past -
The Water Bears are back.
Slipping through whispers of ladybirds,
Dew on all six knees,
They dream of days in the moonlight,
When Moss Piglets sang without water
For decades

The author's comments:
Water Bears, also known as Moss Piglets are a kind of small, very tough and resilient mite. They look a bit like tiny, six-legged bears from close up, and have survived journeys into space... it was these rather mystifying creatures I was referring to when writing this poem
