Don't Look Up to Me
don't look up to me,
but look sideways and tilt your head,
maybe then you can understand how i see this world.
i don't want to be a role model,
i just want to be a beckon of light to the next generation
of dreamers who think beauty only exists in their heads
or to the kids who are always looking up,
just like i did.
I've borrowed a hundred pair of shoes
and i must say heals are uncomfortable,
but they made me feel tall for once.
sandals felt like freedom,
but apparently freedom doesn't belong in the city
because my feet were attacked by the monsters
of a busy city sidewalk.
it's all about perspective points.
don't look up to me,
stick your head between your legs and see clouds as dancing ballerinas
because i see this world as an orchestra complimented by a perfect company
of swans tip-toeing their way around the truth that the truth doesn't exist.
I've worn a thousand masks and Mardi Gras is my favorite time of year
because i can be anyone i want and just blame it on the poison
i drank so willingly in pursuit of shimmering beads.
it's all about surroundings.
don't look up to me,
stick on rainbow shades and hang up-side down on a jungle-gym,
stick coke bottles on your sockets and read a few poems.
stick your head in a fish tank and try to talk to Flounder.
don't look up to me,
because I'm too busy looking up at the trees wishing i was them.
don't look up to me,
because I'm too busy looking up at some one else who is looking up
at some one else who is only looking at the dirt above his head.
don't look up to me,
because everything you need is straight-on in the mirror.
