Never Ever After
Cinderella with your slippers so fine,
Rapunzel with your hair so long and blond
Snow White, with your Prince who refused to believe you were dead
Sleeping Beauty with all your sweet dreams
Little Mermaid with all your tales of the sea
Beauty, made complete with your Beast
I've caught a little green bug from all of you princesses of tales told at night
I’m told that this little guy’s name is Envy,
A very poisonous venom courses through his blood
When it bites, I itch and squirm for hours
And I think about all of you going on your adventures,
Not a hair out of place or fine dress soiled,
Meeting a Prince, and because it’s fate, he loves you at first sight
Even if you aren’t a princess, and it all works out in the end
Happily Ever After
But, that won’t be for me
The most exciting thing in my life is music
And the most tragic, a not-so- great test grade
I’m not breathtakingly beautiful like you, and who knows if there’s a Prince Charming out there for me
But…I can’t help but read your stories full of woe and ending in happiness
Wanting and wishing and dreaming for a
Happily Ever After
Of my own
