The Underground Railroad
The slaves,
Running,
Escaping,
To Canada.
The many,
Who are caught,
Have their leg,
Or perhaps their foot,
Broken,
So they can no longer,
Escape.
Those who succeed,
In running,
To Canada,
Start,
A new life,
Of their own,
And full of overwhelming,
Freedom.
The safe houses,
Along the way,
Have the windows,
Brightly lit,
With burning candles,
As markers,
Showing,
That the strangers,
Running,
Are welcome there.
