Never To Happen
Why do some things have to die
Without even a chance to live
They’ll never have a chance to fly
Oh, why did they have to die?
Never to experience joy or sorrow
Never to wake for a new day
Never be able to count on tomorrow
Oh, why did they have to die?
Never be able to make a new friend
Never say, “I love you” to a mother
All too quickly, their lives are at an end
Oh, why did they have to die?
They’ll never get to become old
And watch their kids grow
Their grandchildren never to hold
Oh, why did they have to die?
We sob and cry
And express our grief
We ask ourselves why
Oh, why did they have to die?
Our lives go on
But theirs have ceased
Their things are left to pawn
With all their memories
We miss them everyday
But we soon learn to cope
We wonder what they’d say
If they didn’t have to die
One day we’ll meet again
And our joy will overflow
We’ll allow them to defend
Just why they had to die!
Others will miss us
And they will wonder too
We’ll watch them made a fuss
As they wonder why we had to die.
This circle will go on
We’ll find death is part of life
And as each new day dawns
Someone will wonder why they had to die!
