Ballerina
Whisper lies
Into my believing ears
Perfection is what we strive for,
Make me believe
That I am not good enough
I look bad
My feet aren’t pointed, my stomach sticks out,
My butt’s too big,
My back is arched
And then you say
I’m not confident enough
Such a twisted game we play
Every day,
Back and forth the voices in your head
Cut again, go back to your razor friend
Don’t eat that food, the mirror will haunt you tonight
When you stare longingly at the skin and bones
You know is under all that weight
Shove those fingers down your throat
Accept the pain because you deserve it
Hold me tight, wrap your fingers around my heart and
Squeeze
Too strong
Dance till my feet bleed
My knees are scraped, my arms are bruised
Muscles swollen, tears cascading
Every fibre of my being
SCREAMING
That I’m
Not good enough
So you fight and fight and fight and fight
But sometimes you think it would just be
So much easier
To give in.
