A Bit of Hope
I hear footsteps at the door
They have come for us once more
Terrified, my heart speeds its beat
As I wonder if I'll have to meet
This destructor of life
Deliverer of strife
Enslaver and master
My heart beats faster
I shield my brother from sight
Mama drops the cover, blocking the light
The door is broken; boots step in
I cover my ears to block out the din
When they leave, a fuss they are making
Mama her strong bravery is faking
Finally they ride off into the night
We crawl out, relieved at the light
Another day we have to live
A bit of hope we have to give.
