Safe On A Cloud
I wondered as a child
Why the earth was round,
Why the birds could sing,
If I was safe and sound.
I wonder now, in my current state
If I should go back to that world.
Where bad things happened in movies,
Where people didn’t hate.
A world filled with pure childhood joy.
When my best friend was just that little boy.
Safe, on a distant cloud
We were whoever we wanted to be,
Then life started to get loud.
The little boy became a hurt man.
Got lost in the world he thought he knew,
Ran to places he shouldn’t have ran.
Drugs and alcohol surrounded him
Poisoned his imaginative soul
And his world became dim.
So, I wondered for him
Why the earth was round
Why his hopes and dreams didn’t work out.
But I knew with my whole being
That he wasn’t safe or sound.
I knew where he hid his secrets
Behind closets, behind closed doors
And I knew how to unlock
His mind, even more
And I did.
I wondered as a child
Why the earth was round
Why the birds could sing
If I was safe and sound.
But now I’ve seen the world
Things cold, dark, aloof,
I can wonder what I want to,
But now I know the truth.
