Sitting on the windowsill, a beaten book in hand
Gazing at the night sky was this broken beaten man
He’d scrawled upon the pages like the scars upon his hands
Nervously bold
Courageously fearful
Recklessly careful
Scared since birth
Of being left behind
Abandoned by his father and mother, lovers, even foes
Forcing a smile
Forcing a verse
