One of 10 tabs open on my browser
Standing there, with a blue stripped hula hoop, spinning it with more talent than the blackest of spiders
Hair cut by the neighborhood barber, lollipop afterwards, tears dry afterwards
Smiling, knowing there are popsicles in the freezer, and moms making her favorite tonight
I remember when she went to that talent show, and the kids oohed and ahhed, and they knew she would be something. She kept putting the wildest illusions in front of their eyes, drawing the attention away from her two moms in the back, cameras out, cheering the loudest, hands wiping tears
Afterwards
And I know the home videos of her, make me smile more than even her best show, or the gymnastics
Just to see her missing teeth gaps, and the times she dropped that hoop, that she hopes she won’t do in front of the crowd
I made you a mother, you made me a mother, she made the two of us human
The product of us, how I am unsure
I am
Unperfect, full of bad promise, with more venom than even the blackest of spiders
I close her
The tab from my browser, and wonder when, where, how
Could a girl like that ever be
The product
Of me
