The Pen
When someone asks me,
Which I prefer,
The pencil or the pen,
I inquire upon the matter
Of the current situation
In homework I think pencil’s best
In case I make mistakes,
In letters I know the pen prevails,
For there are no back takes.
The pen is assertive,
The pencil is shy.
I write poems with a pen,
But now and again
I go back and change a line,
But the scar will stay,
A reminder this day
Of something I wished to do or say.
But perhaps I was chicken
Thinkin’ and sittin’
Wondering what I should have said
Should I stand up?
Speak my mind,
Or forever blindly follow the blind.
I’ve always preferred the pen.
