The Experience of a Hip Hop Concert
slaves to the entrancing beats
turned to frenzy when we feel the
BASS
in our feet, our hearts, our hips
heads bowed
slam them in the air like
nothing else matters
like you haven't gone past curfew
and that guy didn't grope you just now
lights dance
a forest of limbs sway
a sea anemone
that could shock! you
into rhythmic convulsions
to be in the masses
transports you in and out
of the collective hype, energy
the madness of this crowd
you forget yourself
then remember
commuting from your own body
static
to the deep ancient spirit
that lives in our blood
better to lose yourself
completely
than to feel apart
from this hallowed hip hop
